Why did we decide to refine our recipes in 2023?

At Antidote, we are always looking for ways to do better. We have maintained our commitment to using only the best ingredients and creating the highest quality product. We also wanted to reduce calories and the natural sugar content in our juices while retaining high nutritional value and great taste, but it was truly challenging.

The announcement of Nutri-Grade by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Health Promotion Board (HPB) of Singapore at the end 2021, and implementation of it at the start of 2023, spurred us on to achieve this goal. We spent the whole of 2022 on R&D, going back and forth with nutritionists and sending our juices for lab tests before coming up with the recipes we have today – achieving great flavor, nutrition, low natural sugar content and low calories.

What is Nutri-Grade?

From the SFA website: Nutri-Grade grades your drinks based on their sugar and saturated fat levels. Think of this as a combined score. Drinks graded “A” have the lowest sugar and saturated fat content, while drinks graded “D” have the highest.

Why are Antidote’s current juices not labeled with Nutri-Grade?

Nutri-Grade labeling is optional for drinks graded “A” and “B”. We have meticulously crafted our juice blends to meet these requirements while maintaining great flavor and nutritional value.

How do I find the Nutrition Facts of Antidote’s juices?

SHOP > Navigate to Alacarte Menu > Select Juice Flavour > Click on “NUTRITION” tab.

What about The Original recipes?

Some of “The Original” recipes are graded and labeled C due to their higher fruit content. It’s a big misconception that beverages graded C or D are “unhealthy”. Going purely based on the Nutri-Grade, one might think a soft drink labeled Grade C is equally as “healthy” as a bottle of freshly cold-pressed juice labeled Grade C.

There are a few key points of consideration when evaluating how healthy a food or drink is:

1. Is it filled with empty sugar and calories?

Not all calories are equal! For the same amount of calories and sugar, fresh and all natural juice is filled with Vitamins, phytonutrients and antioxidants, while most soft drinks and store bought ‘juices’ contain none (or fortified nutrients).

2. Is it artificially sweetened with “zero-calorie” sweeteners?

Some sweeteners can seriously damage your gut microbiome despite actually being zero calories. Secondary effects can also include cravings for unhealthier, sweeter foods and drinks over time.

3. Are the ingredients actually real?

Don’t just trust what you see on the front of packaging. You typically see “Made with real ingredients” or “Not from concentrate” on the front, but check the ingredient list at the back for a real surprise.

Our juices are and will always be made with 100% natural fruits and vegetables.
